We believe in investing in the best technology that further improves your vision. We are excited to announce that Visionary Ophthalmology is one of the first centers across the country to offer The Latest Laser Blade-Free Cataract Surgery, FDA approved!

The Latest Laser Blade-Free Cataract Surgery

Until now, standard cataract procedures and custom cataract surgeries were performed manually, where the surgeon used a blade for all incisions. A manual procedure allows for a margin of error that can increase risks and affect outcomes. With the introduction of the first FDA approved custom cataract laser, surgeons at Visionary Ophthalmology now have the ability to create incisions and potentially reduce astigmatism without blades. These incisions are proven to be more accurate and precise, thus eliminating some of the variables that have complicated cataract surgery in the past. Recent results show that the custom cataract laser is up to 10x more precise than manual techniques for some portions of the cataract surgical procedure. By being more accurate and precise, surgery should be safer and visual outcomes more predictable. The laser also allows for better management of patient’s astigmatism and also features real-time tools that give our surgeons at Visionary Ophthalmology an accurate visual of what is going on inside the eye.  This computer-guided laser makes the entire cataract procedure more precise and safer.

This type of laser precision, combined with the experience of our world-class cataract surgeons at Visionary Ophthalmology like Dr. J. Alberto Martinez, is available now in our office!

About The Technology: The LenSx Laser

The LenSx Laser is a fully-integrated, image-guided femtosecond laser designed specifically for refractive cataract surgery. Using a customizable 3-D surgical platform, it allows our surgeons to visualize, customize and perform many of the most challenging steps of cataract surgery:

  • Anterior Capsulotomy
  • Lens Fragmentation
  • All Corneal Incisions

True Image-Guided 3-D Surgery

The LenSxLaser allows for visualization of the eye during all stages of the procedure. From docking to planning and the procedure itself, the LenSx Laser offers multiple visualization options:

  • Using the video microscope and integrated real-time Optical Coherence Tomography, the laser is gently interfaced with the eye.
  • The display panel and surgical display allows our surgeons to visually customize the procedure.
  • The integrated OCT provides complete visualization of the anterior segment during each phase of the procedure.

Surgical Customization Overview

Every patient is unique – just as every surgeon has a unique approach to performing refractive cataract surgery. The LenSx® Laser recognizes both, with a range of customization options to extend your expertise to every patient you see.

The LenSx® Laser allows you to create precise, repeatable incisions using your preferred settings. By automating some of the most challenging steps of cataract surgery, the LenSx® Laser helps to streamline subsequent steps of the procedure – allowing you to precisely create all incisions and perform lens removal and IOL implementation with increased confidence.

Customize refractive cataract surgery through both the graphic user interface and video microscope.

The LensX Laser Blade-Free Cataract Surgery Procedure

Once the patient is docked and settings have been confirmed, the surgeon depresses the foot pedal to initiate the laser procedure:

  • Capsulotomy –
A perfectly sized and centered capsulotomy is formed.
  • Lens Fragmentation –
The lens is fragmented into the desired pattern.
  • Primary and Secondary Incisions
 – Primary and secondary incisions are created.
  • Arcuate Incisions
 – If arcuate incisions have been selected, these are created during this step.
